Understanding the Voice-Hearing Experience:  an Experiential Workshop

This three-hour workshop, pioneered by Pat Deegan, Ph.D., provides participants with a deeper understanding and appreciation of the impact of hearing voices along with practical tools for helping individuals develop coping skills.  Participants experience a voices simulation while engaging in four different tasks common to individuals receiving mental health services.  This workshop is limited to forty participants.

Strengths-Based Supervision Workshop

Excellent supervisors build an inspired workforce that is able to generate positive outcomes for the people being served by the agency.  This workshop provides supervisors with the information and tools they need to be successful leaders, create a cohesive team and develop each staff person's strengths and abilities.

Shared Decision-Making

Making decisions about treatment and services is best done through a collaborative relationship between the practitioner and the person recieving services.  Shared decision-making regarding medication is an active process that involves complex decision-making and the opportunity to work through decisional conflicts.  This workshop explores the key decisional conflicts and provides effective strategies to enhance empowerment and self-determination through education, creating a working alliance, valuing individual experience, informed choice, collaborative experiments and self-management strategies.

Preventing Compassion Fatigue:  Reclaiming Your Spirit

This workshop addresses the issues related to the "cost of caring" when helpers are faced with repeated exposure to the trauma and suffering of others.  Participants will receive a review of the literature and current research, develop a personal self-care plan and learn how to create personal and professional supports for long-term compassion satisfaction on the job.  Both Lucinda and Debra are Certified Compassion Fatigue Educators.

Creating a Wellness Recovery Action Plan

Developed by Mary Ellen Copeland, the Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP), is an evidence-based practice self-help tool for any individual seeking to create more balance, wellness and recovery into their lives.  Debra Brasher is a Certified WRAP Facilitator.

Strengths-Based Practice

This fun and engaging workshop is designed to expand the notion of strengths for each participant.  Based on work in positive psychology, this workshop exposes participants to the 24 signature strengths, provides assessment and interviewing skill development and highlights the importance of focusing on what's right with each person.
